Yum... Just got back from a late lunch at the Skyline on Plainfield Road, by the intersection of Plainfield and Hunt.
Their coney bowl is served up in a small bowl with 3 dogs, onions & mustard (if you want), chili and about a pound of shredded cheese!
I sometimes have lunch at another local Skyline, the one on Cornell Road, just east of Reed Hartman.
They serve a coney bowl in a shallower, wider serving bowl, which seems to allow for more chili. I like that one…

Travel writer writer Ben Chapman visited Cincinnati this month to write a story about our CULTural favorite food for the Washington Post.
You know, with a ratio of about one chili parlor for every 1,000 area residents, it's safe to say that this chili really is in our DNA... Ben Chapman writes a fine tale of his cincy chili weekend, starting with a quick lesson in how not to reveal oneself as a chili virgin. This story includes…

Chili was very popular in Texas and in Cincinnati. It contains meat, beans, and chili sauces and powder. History says that chili joints in the early days are cheap and the quality is also poor. Despite its low-class taste in the early days, this dish fed hundreds of people during the depression years. It saved people from hunger....

Hello Coney Community! Last week I stumbled upon an amazing blog with beautiful pictures. It is called
Dog Hill Kitchen. Maggie is a mom from the Greater Detroit area who loves to cook! Her presentation is stellar. Every picture she has looks as if it were from a cook book. I was able to find Maggie with my usual Google search of Cincinnati Chili. What did I find...Cincinnati Chili Cupcakes!!!!! My first thought was astonishment. How…

I like to say that I'm an Ohio girl at heart and a city girl in my soul.
I've been up here in this crazy city they call New York for over four years now and its definitely become a part of me inside and out...but I sure do miss Cincy. My family, my friends and of course my Skyline Chili.
I used to have family and friends ship me cans of it just to give me a fix between my visits home...but then I found an awesome little place in the East Village while I was living there a couple…

Hi coney lovers! I came across an amazing bit of information today. Did you know that you can get a 3 Way chili, Cincy style, at multiple locations in Jordan?!! You can. Chili House in Amman and elsewhere serves our treat daily. In the 1960's, the Daoud family wanted to own the largest chili chain on the planet! The Jordanian family moved to the U.S. and started Gold Star Chili in 1965! In 1980, one of the brothers moved back and started Rio Cafe. Next in 1985, the original 8th Circle…

Did you know that there is a right and a wrong way to eat Cincinnati style chili? There is...
ALWAYS wear a bib! This is mandatory unless you like chili spots on your shirt, pants, tie, shoes or purse.
ALWAYS cut your chili spaghetti (no matter which toppings you choose) with a fork. You cut it like a piece of pie. My old boss at Skyline, Bonnie Cornwell, taught me that. She is right, don't chance it. There will be no twirling of the forks at a…

It’s called compartmentalization, and even though it is an unsuitably long word, the idea seems to work pretty well.
In basic form, compartmentalization means sectioning off areas of your brain for certain functions – your artistic inclinations in one area, your rational attributes in another. In life, you could think of it as separating work from home. Extend things a little, and you get a separate compartment for how you deal with, say, people you knew when you were 10 and people…

“Can't even get decent food. Right after I got here, I ordered some spaghetti with marinara sauce, and I got egg noodles and ketchup.”--Henry Hill, “Goodfellas” (1990)
Let’s review.
Hometown: Cincinnati. Chili: Skyline. Surprise: Cincinnati chili served in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Danger: Cross-pollination of foodstuffs.
I went well prepared for my date with “4-Way Cincinnati Style Chili.” I memorized the legend of the Lambrinides Family, who started…

Cincinnati style chili is definitely prepared a certain way. Lately, I have been curious to see how it tastes vegetarian style. Last night, I went to the grocery store and grabbed everything needed for this adventure. You can see it here play by play! It actually tastes like the real thing! Both recipes are made the same way whether you use beef or not, so go to Kroger and get your ingredients and try some Cincinnati chili homemade. You will love it!
